My Gorillaz project is not dead – after 3 years I finally got around to finish it with promised Russel Hobbs figure, to complete the set of band members.

This papertoy was inspired by KidRobot Gorillaz figure of Russel Hobbs from Phase 2.
Two colorways are available, following CMYK and White versions of the original toys.

Photos:

My photos show my “test build”, that I used to fix some stuff for easier assembly. Many unnecessary folds were eliminated and you should get a cleaner-looking figure as a result.

How-to build:

Zip archive includes PDO file with 3D model and info on where each piece goes and where they are connected, but I’ve also labelled all parts in the PDF.

To avoid confusion, I suggest keeping all cut parts separated by piece (“left leg”, “right arm” etc).

  1. Score all tabs before cutting.
  2. This figure can greatly benefit from not scoring unnecessary folds, those that need to be scored are have indications in the PDF, others can be seen in the PDO. Use your own judgement.
  3. Cut parts in groups (by labels) and keep them separate.
  4. Assemble all labelled parts individually.
  5. Put it all together in following order:
    1. Attach legs to the bottom of “Hips”.
    2. Attach Sneakers to bottom of the Legs.
    3. Put his jacket over main Body part.
    4. Glue in Hood over the Jacket.
    5. Attach arms to the main Body.
    6. Glue main Body to top of the Hips.
    7. Glue Head to Neck.
    8. Glue Head+Neck to main Body.
    9. Glue in Hands to Arms.
    10. Glue in Drum and wrench.
    11. Put his cap on.
