Techo Kaigi | Mid-Year Planner Review 2024

Techo Kaigi: Mid-year planner usage review 2024

My birthday falls on the 2nd of June, so beginning of the Summer it’s a traditional time of self-reflection for me. A few weeks before or after my birthday I spend hatching new plans, setting new goals and it’s perfect time to check my planner usage too, as we’re 5 month into year 2024 and I had time to evaluate my current setup.

A start of a new cycle, akin to a New Year, demands review and adjustments to be made for my envisioned future.

Techo Kaigi | My planner system review 2023

Techo Kaigi: My planner system review 2023

Every year around October I start to think about finally printing out inserts for my planner for the coming year. As I’ve printed my own inserts since 2016, I’ve always took this time to review my usage and make adjustments. Thanks to stumbling upon this video with mid-year review of planner usage by team at US stationary shop Yoseka, I’m now aware that this practice has a new trendy, japanese-inspired name of “Techo Kaigi”, thanks to thriving planner culture around Hobonichi Techo and other planners.

So, below are my musings about my planner usage, my experiments with insert layouts and what I’m going to test out in coming month, before I commit to a full year of inserts.

In my bag (May 2022)

In my bag - May 2022

It’s been ages since I’ve done one of those… So here is my minimal everyday carry after 2 years of pandemic.

Most used bag at the moment is my ECCO Belaga mini crossbody bag in blue-grey, it held really well – saffiano-type leather used means there are no visible scratches even after all those years. Bag style is perfect for me, it goes with everything.

Mini Filofax Finchley | ink journal setup

Mini Filofax Finchley as ink journal: frontMini Filofax Finchley as an ink journal

Спустя годы, свое предназначение нашел еще один мини Filofax.

After many years, another mini Filofax has found its designation. I’ve decided to turn my Mini Filofax Finchley in Brown into an ink journal in order to collect fountain pen and inks tests in one place, as well as to have my other writing accessories samples on hand.

The contents are made up from plain paper cut into mini size (paper is quite thin and was taken from the old notebook by Flying Tiger), supplemented by homemade dividers made with slightly more thick paper adorned with tabs created out of narrow post-it bookmarks and some clear tape to protects them from wear and tear.

Mini Filofax Malden | wallet setup

Mini Filofax Malden as a walletMini Filofax Malden as a wallet

Van der Spek.

Пришла пора проверить удобство этого формата в деле!

As I resigned to the inevitable retirement of my Zip Up wallet from Iconic, which served me well for 9 years, and being mindful of my previous attempts to find something with an adequate design for my needs coupled with an non-boring colour, I’ve decided to assemble a temporary setup (or not so temporary, if I’m lucky) using Mini Filofax from my collection as a wallet.

All Mini-sized organizers from Filofax are intended for use as a wallet, each has pockets for coins and a back pocket for banknotes, and the ability to add sheets for notes, shopping lists and information about my daily plans becomes quite relevant in the anticipation of the summer months, when I use smaller bags, that can’t hold my main planner from Van der Spek.

It seems, the time has come to check the convenience of mini format for myself!
