My father’s planner

On 15 of February, after a year long fight with returned cancer, my father died. After his death I’ll have to manage his estate, but some things were easy to find new owners for, as me and my brothers share some of my father’s passions. So one of my brothers will return to Moscow with dad’s fishing gear, another will maintain our dacha, and somewhere in future I’ll have to transport my father’s library to St. Petersburg… but right now I’m back after a month long stint in Khabarovsk, and only things I could take with me were my father’s side of the family archive (to digitize and preserve) and his trusted ringed-organizer.

It’s the first ringed-organizer I’ve ever layed my eyes on – and I have some fond memories of lusting after it. The possibility of switching up content as needed really appealed to me even as a kid.

Одним из самых знаменательных моментов за последние полгода стал переезд в Питер на ПМЖ моего друга детства.
Воссоединение после 11 лет разлуки состоялось 13 марта.

1969-1990

1969-1990

December 09, 2011 – Calendar

I’ve developed a fascination with things, tracking time when I was still a child.
This little device belonged to my grandfather since 1969, he carried it everywhere for 21 year.
I used to play with it for hours: it was my own pocket Time Machine!
I was so sad when 1991 came.

My father never tosses old calendars, he keeps them to use again later, when the right time comes.
I have to admit that I’ve stashed a few myself.

I love watches, it seems to go in family.
Both my grandfathers had several, my father has 4, even my mother owns 3 by now.
In time I expect to have a collection of my own.
I have some very specific requirements though: not-thin bracelet and hours marked with indexes.

For long periods in my life i’ve worn watches on both hands.
It started in school, when my father tried to fight my inclination to wear a watch on my right hand.
“Show me your hand!” – he demanded when I would come by to visit.
I dutifully showed him the “right” left hand.
He never got to think to check another…

I’m only truly naked when my watch is removed.
The act of its removing is both amusing and somewhat symbolic.

Not to be forgotten, that all of those are traits of a person who easily forgets what day it is and actually needs a reminder about his own birthday.
But thanks to this 42-years old gadget I always knew I was born on Monday.

Reading nook

I love my home, I realy do.
I’m glad i can call it a home – that’s very important for me.
I’m extremelly protective of it, very few people been there in those 5 years, and I don’t think my admission policy will ever be more lax.

The Beatles poster I got as a present for my 12 birthday, I brought it with me from Khabarovsk in 2009, I’ve missed it all those years.

my father will stay in St.Petersburg ’till Dec. 13 for 25 bloody DAYS.
i love my father, i just don’t understand how can people live with their parents other people and don’t hang themselves or jump from the highest building?
i guess i could use a couple of lessons on the subject.
